Armenian Mountains

Ancient name
Taurus
Modern name
Taurus Mountains
The Armenian Mountains refer to the Taurus mountains of southern Anatolia as well as the Anti-Taurus and the Lesser Caucasus ranges in the Armenian highlands further the east. Dati notes correctly that the Tigris and Euphrates rivers have their origins in these mountains. Note that the Sfera map labels do not distinguish between Monte d'Ermenia (something implying a single peak, which we might translate Mount Armenia) and Monti Ermini (something implying a range, which we might translate the Armenian Mountains). See also Mount Ararat, which is sometimes labeled Monte Erminio.
