Asia Minor (also known as Anatolia) is a peninsula between the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea that roughly corresponds to the modern country of Turkey. It is distinguished in ancient sources from Asia Major, the Caucasus region. Because it was occupied in Dati's day by the Seljuk Turks and later the Ottomans, it was already in the 15th century known alternatively as Turchia (Turkey). Many Sfera maps acknowledge this toponymic shift by labeling the region with both labels, for example asia minore la qual e Turchia ("Asia Minor, which is Turkey").
