The port city of Basra is located at the point where Euphrates and the Tigris (which meet to form the Shatt al-Arab) empty into the Persian Gulf. Founded in the 7th century CE, it was well-known in legend as one of the ports from which the fictional Sinbad the Sailor embarked on his journeys. It now serves as Iraq's major port on the Persian Gulf. Like its neighbor Chessi, while mentioned in Dati's poem, it never appears on any of the Sfera maps.
