The medieval city of Bona developed from the Roman city of Aphrodisium, the port for Hippo Regius. In Dati's day it was disputed between the Hafsids (based in Bugia and Tunis) and Zayyanids (based in Tremissen/Tlemcen). Bona was also the target of the unsuccessful Bona Crusade launched by the Aragonese in 1398. Campbell #1703. Note that Bona is different place from both Cape Bon (Tunisia) and Bonandrea (Libya).
