Cape Bojador

Modern name
Cape Bojador
Modern country
Morocco/Western Sahara
Cape Bojador is a headland on the west coast of Africa, beyond Messa; the discovery of a route past it in 1434 was considered a major breakthrough for European explorers and merchants. Dati's text dates from a slightly earlier moment, and it is probably this point he is referring to when he notes that those who venture beyond it have never returned (4.2.5–8). It appears on only a single Sfera map, which also includes the port of Buzedor. Note that neither Cape Bojador nor Buzedor are the same as Buzentor, which is on the Mediterranean coast of north Africa.
