Chios is a large island in the Aegean Sea north of Samos and south of Mytilene, off the coast of Asia Minor. Like Samos, it was controlled by the Genoese Giustiniani family in the later Middle Ages, being commercially important for the trade in mastic, alum, salt and pitch. Campbell #1398d.
