Edil River

Modern name
Southern Volga River
Modern country
Russia
Dati describes the Volga River as being formed from two tributaries, the Edil and the Tir. These are depicted in the 1367 Pizzigano map, the 1375 Catalan Atlas and the 1457 Fra Mauro map. While the Edil appears to correspond to the main upper stretch of the Volga, the Tir could be any one of its many tributaries, or an imaginary other "main" tributary.
