Iaxartes River

The Iaxartes River—now known as the Syr Darya—originates in the Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan (possibly the Emaus) and flows mostly northwest to the Aral Sea. It is often found paired with the Oxus River or Amu Darya) on Ptolemaic maps.
