Modern name

The city of Jerusalem is considered one of the holiest cities in all three Abrahamic religons (Christianity, Judeism, and Islam). As a result Jerusalem appears at the center of many medieval European maps (indicating its status as the "center" of the world), and its capture in 1099 was believed to mark the success of the First Crusade. Its Old CIty contains the Holy Sepulcher, while the Mount of Olives forms the Old City's eastern flank and Mount Zion stands to its south. (As a result of this, Jerusalem is also sometimes called Zion.)
