Laleccia

Ancient name
Laodecia
Modern name
Latakia
Modern country
Syria
Laleccia—originally Laodicea, now Syria's principal port of Latakia—served as the main port for the crusade Principality of Antioch in the 12th century. In Dati's day its importance was diminished but it still had a Venetian consul to facilitate the trade in cottons and silks from Persia. Note that the range of spellings for Laraccia (Morocco), La Rassa (Egypt), Larissa (Egypt), Laleccia (Syria), and Laiazzo (Turkey) closely overlap in medieval Italian. Campbell #1493.
