Lesmirre was the medieval name for ancient Smyrna (modern Izmir), along the western coast of Asia Minor between Alto Luogo to the south and Foia to the north, and facing the Aegean island of Chios at the end of its peninsula. The Le at the beginning of Le Smirre seems to have been understood as a medieval Italian article (plural 'the'), so it is often written with a space (le smirre) or without the article (smirre). Campbell #1383.
