Lovati

Ancient name
Bathys Limen
Modern name
Batumi
Modern country
Georgia
The toponym Lovati corresponds to present-day Batumi, Georgia, and the ancient port of Bathys Limen, although Dati's reference (4.35.01) is specifically to the river—now known as the Çoruh or Chorokh—that empties into the Black Sea here. Dati pairs it with the Fascio River nearby to the north (4.35.1). Note that the toponym appears both as a single word (lovati) and as two words, with Lo serving as an article (lo vati). Campbell #1243; Gordeev 132–3.
