Rabat is a large coastal city and the present-day capital of Morocco, separated from its neighbor Sale by the Bou Regreg River, which meets the ocean there. Interestingly, most of the Sfera maps situate Rabat not on the Moroccan coast but inland, along with (more accurately) Fez and Morocco. Rabat is often mistakenly depicted as an inland city on an island in the middle of a river that flows into the Atlantic at Arzilla. This misunderstanding may be connected to the absence of Rabat on contemporary nautical (portolan) charts, which were a major source of information for the Sfera maps.
