Scythia

Ancient name
Scythia
Ancient Scythia corresponds roughly to the areas north and east of the Black Sea, also frequently labeled as Tartaria, Sauromate, and/or Sarmatia. A division into Scythia-this-side-of-the-mountains and Scythia-beyond-the-mountains (much rarer) implies influence from contemporary 15th-century Ptolemaic maps.
