Scythia-beyond-the-mountains is a term from the Ptolemaic tradition indicating a general region of Scythia (central Asia) on the eastern (far) side of the Emaus Mountains, such as Mongolia and China. Its counterpart is Scythia-this-side-of-the-mountains.
This toponym does not appear in the poem, only on the maps accompanying it.
