Sea of Tana

Modern name
Sea of Azov
The Sea of Tana (now known as the Sea of Azov) was known by that name in the Middle Ages after the major port of Tana situated at its eastern end. It was a major waterway connecting the Don River (with Tana at its mouth) to the Black Sea via the Kerch Strait, and from there via the Dardanelles to the Mediterranean Sea.
