Taurica was a ancient name for the Crimea, which appears commonly on 15th-century Ptolemaic maps. It also appears as Tana Taurica due to the major port of Tana in that region; see also Sea of Tana. The region abuts or overlaps the area often marked as Tartaria, although Tartaria is really further east, strictly speaking. Taurica is not very common, appearing only in 3 Sfera manuscripts. Note that there is no connection between the region of Taurica, the Taurus Mountains, and the city of Tauris (now Tabriz, Iran).
This toponym does not appear in the poem, only on the maps accompanying it.
