Tauris—now the city of Tabriz, Iran—was a Silk Road nexus that served as the capital of several states in the later Middle Ages, including the post-Mongol Ilkhanate and the Qara Qoyunlu. It was sacked by Timur in 1392 and incorporated as the capital of the Safavid empire in 1502. Note that the city of Tauris as it appears on the Sfera maps is different from the Taurus Mountains (Monte Tauro).
