Originally an independent kingdom in western Asia Minor with its capital at Nicomedia, Bithynia was incorporated into the Roman empire as part of the province of Bithynia and Pontus. Like its neighbor Thrace, it appears on only one Sfera manuscript (Bos), probably as a result of Ptolemaic influence.
