Tripoli, now the second-largest city in Lebanon, was in the later Middle Ages a provincial capital of the six kingdoms in Mamluk Syria. It tends to appears in premodern maps as Tripoli-di-Soria, Tripoli-in-Syria, to distinguish it from Tripoli (Libya) and its neighbor Tripoli Vecchio. See also Beirut (Baruti-di-Soria).
