The Atlas Mountains start in Morocco and stretch as far as Tunisia, separating coastal North Africa (Barbaria) from the Sahara Desert; Dati and the illustrators who created the Sfera maps clearly believed the range stretched across all of northern Africa as far as Egypt (see Charena).
