According to the Ptolemaic tradition, the Emaus Mountains form a significant north-south mountain range in central Asia, separating Scythia-this-side-of-the-mountains from Scythia-on-the-other-side-of-the-mountains. The range is generally identified with the Ural, Pamir, Tian Shan, or Karakoram mountain ranges.
