Lancilotto, now Lanzarote, is the easternmost and fourth-largest of the Canary Islands. Its name (shared with the Arthurian Sir Lancelot) comes from the Genoese navigator Lancelotto Malocello, who landed there on an expedition from Lisbon in 1336. The island appears labeled with his name and the Genoese flag on the 1339 map of Angelino Dulcert.
