Mecca

Modern name
Mecca
Modern country
Saudi Arabia
The city of Mecca, holy to Muslims, lies in the coastal territory of the Arabian Peninsula, which was subject to Mamluk rule in Dati's day. It generally appears with an article in late medieval Italian, as in La Mecca. In the text of La sfera, Dati identifies Mecca as the site of the Prophet Mohammed's tomb, which is incorrect, as Mohammed is buried in Medina.
