Tripoli is now the largest city and capital of Libya. In Dati's day it was the main Tripoli known to Italians, with its counterpart in the Levant known as Tripoli-in-Syria to distinguish the two (but see also the nearby site known as Tripoli Vecchio). Campbell #1651.
