Vatiza lies between Simisso and Girisonda on the southern shore of the Black Sea; like many of its neighbors, it was an important Genoese trading post in the later Middle Ages, before the conquest of the Empire of Trebizond by the Ottomans in 1460–1. Campbell #1272; Gordeev 84.
